UK machinery and business assets auctioneers discuss the value of marketplaces at inaugural BidSpotter Marketplace Mechanics day

15/02/2019

At a packed event in Birmingham last week, ATG held its latest BidSpotter Marketplace Mechanics day for UK machinery and business assets auctioneers.

Attended by delegates from some of the country’s busiest auction houses, the conference explored the importance of marketplaces like BidSpotter in creating value for auctioneers by maximising reach to bidders and achieving the highest possible prices for their sales. Attendees also shared online auction best practice and discussed the benefits of using marketplaces alongside building their own brand with a white label solution – offering the “best of both worlds”.

Guest speaker Nick King, Market Research & Insight Director at Autotrader, kicked off proceedings with a demonstration of how Autotrader invests in analytics, product and marketing to help its customers maximise sales, whilst providing a simple and highly intuitive user experience for buyers.

Richard Lewis, COO at ATG said, “Research shows that 97 per cent of buyers start their search online, and of those 90 per cent use search engines to conduct their search[1]. Furthermore, marketplaces account for 50% of global online sales and in 2017 alone £1.2 trillion worth of goods were sold on the world’s top 75 marketplaces[2]. All of which demonstrates how important it is for a sales business to have a strong online presence and to be visible to search engines .

“As part of improving that visibility ATG invests in SEO, marketing, technology, analytics and customer service to build BidSpotter and this continues to bring new bidders to auctioneer customers.”

ATG is constantly developing new features with a focus on its test and learn strategy. Input from auctioneers and bidders combined with testing informs the features that are developed and how these features are then written, tested and deployed. ATG’s GAP White Label solution also allows an auctioneer to benefit from hosting an auction on its own website and BidSpotter at the same time.

The next BidSpotter Marketplace Mechanics will take place at ATG’s London office on Thursday 30 May 2019.
